Roel Pieper is chief executive officer of Tandem Computers Incorporated. Under his leadership, Tandem is focused on aggressive marketing strategies, leveraging its reputation for reliable, scalable computing and its unique ServerNet architecture in the Himalaya, UNIX, and Windows NT systems marketplaces. The company works with major strategic partners to promote its hardware and software solutions. From 1993 until he joined Tandem in 1996, Pieper served as president and chief executive officer of Tandem's wholly owned subsidiary, UB Networks. While there, he oversaw the successful restructuring of the company and the introduction of a new product line based on UB Networks' flagship GeoLan product. Before joining UB Networks, Pieper served as president and chief executive officer at AT&T's UNIX Systems Laboratories (USL). He was instrumental in establishing the strategic and financial viability of the company with the introduction of UNIX System V Release 4.2 in 1992. The success of UNIX SVR4.2 paved the way for USL's eventual sale to Novell in 1993. Prior to that, Pieper spent ten years at Software AG in Germany and the United States. There, he served as chief technical officer and senior vice president of the technology division. During Pieper's tenure in the mid-1980s, Software AG became the fourth largest software company. Pieper is a member of the board of directors of the Bay Area Multimedia Technology Alliance (BAMTA), Smart Valley, Veritas Software, Lincoln National, General Magic,ViewSoft, and UB Networks, as well as Tandem. Fluent in Dutch, French, German, and English, Pieper is a frequent keynote speaker and panelist at international software, networking, and end-user conferences and seminars. Pieper graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delft in the Netherlands and holds a doctoral degree in computer sciences and mathematics. |
Tim Wild is the vice president of Tandem's Internet and Electronic Commerce Division. Wild is responsible for centralizing Tandem's efforts in electronic commerce, multimedia, and interactive customer services. He develops new strategies and delivers high-bandwidth solutions to the rapidly emerging interactive markets. Wild's division also integrates Tandem's revolutionary ServerNet technology into exciting new high-bandwidth solutions and fosters new partnerships with best-of-class solution providers. Wild joins Tandem from its subsidiary UB Networks, where he held the position of vice president of Interactive Initiatives. The business unit was formed in 1995 to capitalize on opportunities in the growing market for electronic commerce, particularly in the business and consumer segments experiencing a rapid migration toward networking and interactive commerce. While at UB Networks, Wild also held the position of vice president of International Market Devlopment. His reponsibilities included identifying product and business needs for countries outside the United States and developing consistent sales, services, and distribution strategies for customers and prospects worldwide. Before joining UB Networks in in 1993, Wild was vice president of Market Development for Software AG in North America. In addition, Wild has 20 years of experience in the computer business in engineering, sales, and marketing. |
Kurt L. Friedrich is senior vice president and general manager, Parallel Systems Group business unit for Tandem Computers Incorporated. He is responsible for hardware and software development, software engineering, and product management pertaining to the development and marketing of Tandem's NonStop® Kernel and Windows NT systems. Friedrich is also chief technology officer over all of Tandem's product business units. Prior to joining Tandem in 1993, Mr. Friedrich was at Hewlett-Packard where he was the general manager of the open systems software division responsible for HP-UX, multimedia, windowing, and distributed processing software. During that time, Mr. Friedrich was also a major contributor to the successful creation and launch of the common open software environment (COSE), the cross-industry effort to broaden the coverage and tighten specifications for open software. Mr. Friedrich also spent 17 years at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he held a variety of product management and engineering management positions. He was also Digital's director on the board of the Open System Foundation. Mr. Friedrich holds a BSEE from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MBA from Northwestern University. |
